Compare the questions
Ask “What long-run return does this configuration describe?” for RTP. Ask “How dispersed are outcomes?” for volatility. A single percentage cannot answer both, and a provider's broad volatility label is not a session forecast.
Use a fictional comparison
Game A and Game B can both have a 95% return. If A awards more frequent small prizes and B relies more on rare large prizes, equal RTP does not make their short-run results similar. Neither guarantees recovery of a starting balance.
Read a review critically
A sound comparison names the version, gives the source of the return figure and explains the volatility label. Claims such as “high RTP means safe” or “high volatility means a jackpot is due” confuse separate ideas. Look for the assumptions instead of a composite star score.
